Bringing Theory into the Real World
About Me
Educator:
I am an educator who has one foot in the Early Childhood Education field and the other foot in Instructional Design. This experience has taught me that the learning principle I use with young children actually span across different age groups.
I have over 20 years’ experience in both on line and face to face instruction at multiple universities and community colleges including University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Cincinnati State and Miami University-Hamilton.
My expertise includes the traditional classroom model as well as the implementation of on line courses through Blackboard and Canvas.
I am also a Certified Pre-K CLASS Observer, which is a highly rated teacher–child interaction assessment tool.
I have extensive educational experience with young children ranging from birth up to 4th grade. I was a center administrator and preschool classroom teacher for over 11 years.
Trainer:
When you design trainings you must keep in mind it is a snapshot of the topic not a semester long course. I am driven to design trainings that capture the information in an engaging and meaningful way.
My extensive background includes self created instruction as well as State of Ohio trainings I have been certified to provide. I also am currently developing on-line modules that meeting the training requirements set forth by the State of Ohio in the field of Early Childhood Education. The instructional topics include assessment and evaluation, math, science, small group instruction, and curriculum alignment.
Providing multiple hours of training has allowed me to analyze what techniques work and what techniques do not work, thus enhancing the refinement of my designing skills.
Designer:
I am passionate about designing learning experiences that bridge the gap between theory and application. I feel storytelling is a great connector between what the research says and how to apply the theory to the real world setting.
One of the most important issues concerning designing instruction is giving the learners opportunities to problem solve and to apply theories to real life circumstances. I also believe that every learner is individual with different learning styles. Therefore, as a designer I must be flexible in my teaching approach.
I currently have a Masters in Educational Psychology, a Graduate Certificate in Blended and On Line Learning and am finishing up my second Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology at the University of Cincinnati. I am familiar with many on line learning tools including Articulate, Blackboard, Word Press, Camtasia, and Canvas.
